Fields Of Anfield Road
Well another season over and the Fields Of Anfield Road will be quiet for the next two to three months or so. Although the season has not produced any silverware it has not been a season totally devoid of encouraging moments for the future. Without doubt the one huge success of the season has been the introduction and subsequent huge impact created by one Fernando Torres. The lad came from sunny Spain last summer and from there on in he lit up the season for Liverpool fans throughout the world. Goals displaying a wide variety of skills were the order of the day. All Liverpool fans knew he was good before he arrived but we did not realise he was that good. As ever Steven Gerrard made his usual massive contribution to Liverpool's cause during the season as did Jamie Carragher, Javier Mascherano with all the other squad members chipping in with vital contributions during the season. For next season don't be surprised to see the emergence of youngsters at the club making a bigger impact. Players like Ryan Babel, Emiliano Insua, Damien Plessis, Lucas Leiva and possibly Krisztian Nemeth will be expected to push on next season. Congratulations to the reserves in winning the National Reserve League, let's hope there will be more youngsters knocking on the first team door next season. Although they are our great rivals a word of credit must go to Manchester United for their achievements this season. And we should also recognise and congratulate the efforts and successes of Portsmouth in winning the FA Cup and a huge pat on the back to Hull in reaching the Premier League along with West Brom and Stoke City. Well Euro 2008 is nearly upon us and after that before we know it the league season will start in earnest. Hopefully the Fields Of Anfield Road will be the scene of much success this time next year |
